The first meeting of the working group on developing measures to combat the importation and circulation of illegal tobacco products in the Eurasian Economic Union was held on July 2 at the headquarters of the Eurasian Economic Commission, involving Ruslan Davydov, the EEC Minister in charge of Customs Cooperation.
The working group was established in March this year under the Commission's Advisory Committee on Customs Regulation. It has more than 80 members, with half of them being business community representatives who initiated its creation.
The meeting discussed the market situation for tobacco and nicotine-containing products in the EAEU, trends and dynamics of illegal turnover in this area, as well as the practice of using navigation seals to track road transportation of these products.
The working group members made proposals on priority measures aimed at curbing illicit tobacco trafficking in the Union market, which will be addressed by the EEC with the involvement of authorized authorities of the Union countries.
