The implementation of the coordinated policy of the Eurasian Economic Union in the field of consumer protection, as well as the prospects for expanding international cooperation to uphold the interests of citizens were considered at a meeting of the specialized Advisory Committee held on August 6 under the chairmanship of Valentin Tataritsky, Minister in charge of Technical Regulation of the Eurasian Economic Commission.

The EEC Minister has recalled that this year marks the 40th anniversary of the United Nations granting official recognition to consumer rights and establishing international principles for their protection. "Given modern technology changes, the EAEU countries are consistently active in developing cooperation in the field of protecting consumer interests, seeking to ensure efficient protection of their rights," Valentin Tataritsky emphasized.
The meeting participants reviewed the results of implementing the joint action program of the Union States on consumer rights protection in 2024. Following the discussion, a report was approved to be then forwarded to the Commission's Board for consideration.

The progress in preparing the updated sectoral joint action program of the EAEU countries for the coming years was also reviewed. Among the main areas of the new document are such priorities as increasing the citizens' trust in government and public entities engaged in consumer protection, development of digital technologies, introduction of innovative solutions and smart services in trade and services.

The meeting approved the first sectoral seminar for representatives of government agencies of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and the Eurasian Economic Union to share experience in consumer protection issues.
