EAEU Launch of UNCTAD’s World Investment Report 2025

On October 2, 2025, the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) presented its World Investment Report 2025 for the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU).

The virtual presentation of UNCTAD’s flagship report provided a unique opportunity to discuss current global and regional foreign direct investment (FDI) flows and investment trends, with a particular focus on the international investment in the EAEU.

Speaking at the webinar, Ernar Bakenov, Director of the Business Development Department of the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC), stressed that the EAEU investment mechanisms are aligned with international standards, thus ensuring protection of investors’ rights, promoting intraregional investment, and attracting investment from outside the EAEU. Over the last decade, the EAEU’s GDP has grown by nearly 18%, industrial production has increased by 29%, cumulative intra-EAEU FDI has reached 20 billion US dollars.

“UNCTAD’s report offers new guidance to us in the area of investment. The EAEU Member States have developed a conducive investment climate, and our cooperation with UNCTAD will enable us to better address global challenges as well as to enhance EAEU’s investment attractiveness”, said Ernar Bakenov.

According to Mr. Bakenov, one of the aims of the Eurasian economic integration is to create favourable conditions for FDI inflows to the EAEU which encourage technology transfer, deepen business cooperation, and promote intraregional and international trade.

At the Q&A session of the webinar, Vladimir Serpikov, Director of the EEC Trade Policy Department, emphasized that the EEC seeks to further develop constructive cooperation with UNCTAD and expresses its readiness to contribute, if necessary, to elaborating regional sections of UNCTAD’s future analytical publications.

The United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), which was established by the General Assembly in 1964, is the United Nations body responsible for dealing with development issues as they relate to international trade.

The webinar “World Investment Report 2025: EAEU in the spotlight” was co-organized by UNCTAD, the Ministry of Economic Development of the Russian Federation and the Permanent Mission of the Russian Federation to the United Nations Office in Geneva.
