EAEU unifies export measures for certain types of timber

The Board of the Eurasian Economic Commission has introduced a unified non-tariff regulation measure in the form of a quantitative exports restriction for particular types of timber (from codes 4401, 4403 and 4407 of the EAEU CN FEA).

The measure provides for a zero quota for goods exported from the Eurasian Economic Union countries and is established without time limit.

"The Board continues working on the unification of unilateral measures applied at the national level to regulate the export of certain types of products," Andrey Slepnev, EEC Minister in charge of Trade, informed, emphasizing that timber products are included in the list of goods that are essential for the EAEU internal market.

The Decision shall come into effect after 30 calendar days have elapsed from the date of its official publication.

For reference

Currently, particular types of timber in Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan are subject to unilateral export bans. Belarus and Russia have established rates of export customs duties. Since January 2022, Russia will introduce increased rates of export customs duties on wood with a moisture content exceeding 22% and a thickness and width exceeding 10 cm.
