11 Apr 2024 EAEU and Myanmar developing industrial cooperation The prospects for cooperation between the countries of the Eurasian Economic Union and Myanmar in the industrial sector were discussed at the first meeting of the joint working group on interaction between the Eurasian Economic Commission and the Government of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, featuring Georgy Arzumanyan, Deputy Director of the EEC Industrial Policy Department. “The Eurasian Economic Union is open to mutually beneficial cooperation with Myanmar. About a year ago, the Commission and the Government of Myanmar signed a Memorandum of Cooperation and now we are actively discussing promising areas of work, including in industry,” emphasized Georgy Arzumanyan. He introduced his foreign colleagues to the activities of the Commission in this area, spoke about priority areas of work, joint projects of the EAEU states and tools for deepening industrial cooperation in the Union. Representatives of the Myanmar Ministry of Industry noted that the share of industry and construction in Myanmar's GDP was about 20%. The most developed industries in Myanmar are the extractive, textile and woodworking industries. In each of them, for example in light industry, it is possible to deepen mutually beneficial cooperation. It should be noted that in recent years, trade between the Union countries and Myanmar has been developing more and more actively. Russia mainly exports finished metal products, computer, electronic and optical equipment, petroleum products, chemical products and electrical equipment. Other Member States supply to Myanmar software and hardware, medicines, etc. Clothing and footwear are the main imports from Myanmar to Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan. Imports of manufacturing products to the EAEU market increased by almost a third over the year. The Memorandum of Interaction between the Eurasian Economic Commission and the Government of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar was signed on June 15, 2023. It contemplates the interaction in customs and technical regulation, industry, energy, transport, and a number of other areas.
29 Mar 2024 Gohar Barseghyan and representatives of the Armenian Government discussed further development of the EAEU industrial and agricultural sectors On March 28–29, Gohar Barseghyan, Minister in charge of Industry and Agriculture of the Eurasian Economic Commission, made a working visit to the Republic of Armenia, where she held meetings with Mher Grigoryan, Chairman of the Council of the Eurasian Economic Commission; Gevorg Papoyan, Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia, Minister of Economy of the Republic of Armenia; as well as with other officials of the Ministry. In the course of the meeting with Mher Grigoryan, the issues related to the implementation of the priorities of Armenia's chairmanship in the EAEU governing bodies, set forth in the address by Nikol Pashinyan, Chairman of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council, Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia, to the heads of the EAEU Member States were discussed.  The parties drew attention to the importance of enhancing equal cooperation within the EAEU in the industrial and agricultural sector and ensuring EAEU food security. The meeting with Gevorg Papoyan, Minister of Economy, and Arman Khojoyan, Deputy Minister of Economy, also considered a wide range of issues related to the development of cooperation in the field of industry and agricultural sector in the EAEU and a number of other issues on the agenda of the Eurasian economic integration. The EEC Minister informed the leadership of the Ministry of Economy of Armenia about the implementation of the financial support mechanism in the implementation of joint cooperation projects in industry by the Union Member States, the restart of the mechanism of interstate programs and projects, as well as digital solutions in the agricultural sector.  At the meeting between Gohar Barseghyan and Armen Hayrapetyan, Head of the Food Safety Inspection Body of the Republic of Armenia, issues of the agricultural sector were discussed, including amendments to the Seed Circulation Agreement in terms of GIM seeds (there is genetically engineered material in the genetic program of their varieties).
