Bakytzhan Sagintaev and Alexander Lukashenko discussed further EAEU development

Bakytzhan Sagintaev, Chairman of the EEC Board, and Alexander Lukashenko, President of the Republic of Belarus, held a meeting on February 26 in Minsk.

Participants to the conversation discussed the current development of the Eurasian Economic Union, deepening of the association’s economic relations with third countries, the common Member States’ strategy of actions amid new geopolitical realities, and strengthening the Eurasian Economic Commission’s authority on the world stage. 

Bakytzhan Sagintaev informed Alexander Lukashenko about a new mechanism established to support industrial cooperation in the EAEU that involves subsidizing part of a credit interest rate from the Commission’s budget. The sides agreed on the need to activate the authorized authorities of the participating countries in the work to form a pool of multilateral projects in the “3+” format.

The sides paid special attention to food security. Bakytzhan Sagintaev spoke about the Commission activities in this area that include monitoring supplies of agricultural produce and food in the Member States and compiling balances of supply and demand for key agricultural products.

Furthermore, the participants to the conversation discussed the tasks set in the Declaration on Further Development of Economic Processes within the EAEU until 2030 and for the period until 2045 “Eurasian Economic Path” signed on December 25, 2023 by the Heads of the Union States at a meeting of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council. Bakytzhan Sagintaev reported that the action plan was discussed with the Member States aimed at implementing the strategic document.
