On September 25, Valentin Tataritsky, Minister in charge of Technical Regulation of the Eurasian Economic Commission, held a working meeting at the Eurasian Economic Union's headquarters in Moscow with Budimir Plavsic, Head of the Regional Office of the World Organization for Animal Health (WOAH) for Europe.
The Minister noted the dialogue's significance on the anniversary of signing the Memorandum of Understanding between the EEC and WOAH, within which fruitful joint activities have been carried out for ten years.
Budimir Plavsic informed about the objectives, structure and activities of the WOAH Representative Office for Europe. He noted the importance of participation of the Commission's representatives in such significant events as the General Session of the World Assembly of WOAH Delegates to promote the EAEU achievements and interests as well as productive professional interaction.
“Close cooperation with the EEC is important for us. A number of common projects have been successfully implemented during the decade of our joint work,” Budimir Plavsic emphasized.
Speaking about the importance of the WOAH activities in developing international standards and recommendations on animal diseases, Valentin Tataritsky noted: “Our close interaction contributes to the speedy implementation of the WOAH standards in the Commission's acts and their application throughout the Union”.
The sides discussed in detail the execution of the Action Program on implementing the Memorandum between the EEC and WOAH in 2022-2024 and the prospects for further work. The sides noted the high degree of preparation of the draft new joint Action Program for implementing the Memorandum between the EEC and WOAH for the next three-year period – from 2025 to 2027, the document is planned to be signed by the end of this year.
Furthermore, the next general plans were discussed, in particular a seminar on highly pathogenic avian influenza to be held in November this year for the authorized veterinary authorities of the Union Member States.
Budimir Plavsic informed that the information on the WOAH key events scheduled in 2025, where the Commission's representatives are expected to participate, will soon be sent to the EEC.
The sides expressed confidence that the meeting would give impetus to further cooperation between the Commission and WOAH.
The EEC and WOAH cooperate under a Memorandum of Understanding signed in 2014.
