Andrey Slepnev, Minister in charge of Trade of the Eurasian Economic Commission, stated this when commenting on the relevant instruction signed by members of the EEC Council in Moscow. The final decision will be made after studying the issue with representatives of the partner country.
“Recently, the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council decided to start negotiations with Indonesia to conclude a free trade agreement. We expect that the negotiation process will be in its active phase next year, and holding a business dialogue will contribute to the discussion of the most pressing issues and topics,” Andrey Slepnev noted.
In this regard, he recalled that Indonesia is the largest economy in ASEAN and the world's fourth most populous country, and the experts' work has previously shown that trade relations between our states have significant potential.

According to the statistics, the trade turnover between the EAEU and Indonesia increased by 41.5% to 3.7 bln US dollars in 2021 compared to 2020. Along with that, exports increased by 34.1% and imports grew by 44.5%. Negotiations with the Republic of Indonesia on concluding a free trade agreement will be held in accordance with SEEC's Decision No. 6 dated May 27, 2022.
The Eurasian Economic Forum is an annual business event of the Eurasian Economic Union in the economic sphere, held alternately in the Union States chairing the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council, the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council and the EEC Council. The Russian Federation will chair the authorities of the Union in 2023.
