Arzybek Kozhoshev: “Cooperation on energy security issues is timely and important for the EAEU countries”

level. The principles of energy security of the Eurasian Economic Union countries and the progress in establishing common energy markets were considered at the meeting of the Council of Heads of Authorized Energy Bodies of the EAEU countries. The meeting chaired by Arzybek Kozhoshev, EEC Minister in charge of Energy and Infrastructure, was held at the headquarters of the Eurasian Economic Commission on November 23.

The parties approved additional measures and deadlines for implementing measures aimed at launching and further functioning of the common energy market. An arrangement was reached that the Members of the Council of Heads would take measures to timely implement the items of the action plan aimed at establishing the EAEU common electric power market with due regard to the agreed changes.

The meeting attendees have noted that ensuring energy security within the Union is also the most important priority for developing integration interaction, as was announced at the level of the Heads of countries and governments of the Eurasian “five”.

In this regard, the Members of the Council of Heads considered possible options whereby the development of interaction between the EAEU States in the field of energy security is relevant. One such aspects is the project to create common energy markets. The cooperation areas include, inter alia, issues of maintaining synchronized operation of the Union countries' energy systems, self-sufficiency with energy resources, extending energy ties, technological sovereignty, exchange of experience and technologies, and others. It is planned that all this will be included in the Declaration on the main principles and directions of energy security and prospects of interaction at the EAEU

"Cooperation on energy security issues is timely and important for the "five" countries. In the near future we should determine at the Commission's level the optimal formats of integration interaction in this field," Arzybek Kozhoshev noted.

The meeting of the Council of Heads of Energy Bodies of the EAEU countries was attended by Tigran Melkonyan, Head of the Energy Department of the Ministry of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure of the Republic of Armenia, Viktor Karankevich, Minister of Energy of the Republic of Belarus, Almasadam Satkaliev, Minister of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Talaybek Baigaziev, Deputy Minister of Energy of the Kyrgyz Republic, and Nikolai Shulginov, Minister of Energy of the Russian Federation.
