Bakytzhan Sagintaev held negotiations with Zhang Ming, SCO Secretary-General

Bakytzhan Sagintaev, Chairman of the Board of the Eurasian Economic Commission, and Zhang Ming, Secretary-General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), had a thorough exchange of views on further interaction during negotiations held on July 3 in Astana.

In particular, the parties discussed the prospects of cooperation between the Eurasian Economic Union countries and the SCO within the Memorandum of Understanding between the EEC and the SCO Secretariat.

During the conversation Bakytzhan Sagintaev noted that at present the preparation of the Action Plan for implementing the Memorandum is being finalized. In this regard, the Chairman of the EEC Board proposed to organize the signing of the document on the sidelines of the Eurasian Economic Forum to be held this autumn in Armenia.

Speaking about the possibilities of further interaction in the EAEU-SCO format, the Head of the EEC Board stressed the interest of the Eurasian Economic Union States in developing international transport corridors, multimodal and container transportation, and digitalization of cargo transportation in the region.

In this regard, in order to accelerate the development of joint approaches Bakytzhan Sagintaev proposed to hold a joint consultation of transport ministers of the SCO participating countries and the Council of Heads of Authorized Transport Bodies of the EAEU Member States in the near future.

The parties also considered the EEC initiative to hold the EAEU Days at the SCO headquarters.

“This event will certainly attract the attention of the business community representatives. I am confident that the exchange of experience and best practices will contribute to developing trade and economic cooperation between our countries,” Bakytzhan Sagintaev emphasized.

In turn, Zhang Ming noted that the factor of interaction between the SCO and the EAEU becomes more and more significant in today’s global architecture. The dialogue of integrations with an emphasis on the exchange of practical experience on economic issues is intended to ensure comfortable and predictable conditions for the Greater Eurasia development.
