.Bakytzhan Sagintaev, Chairman of the Eurasian Economic Commission's Board, held a series of working meetings on the sidelines of the 16th BRICS Summit in Kazan.
At a meeting with António Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations, the sides exchanged views on the priority areas of cooperation between the Eurasian Economic Union and the UN. In particular, they noted the EAEU and EEC countries' contribution to promoting the UN Sustainable Development Goals, as well as the key objectives for their achievement. The sides also discussed the formalization of relations between the Commission and the UN Secretariat.
The conversation with Masoud Pezeshkian, President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, touched upon relevant matters of the Union's cooperation with Iran. In particular, this entailed the finalization of procedures required for enacting the Free Trade Agreement. Besides, the conversation participants discussed the topic of Iran's obtaining the Observer State status at the EAEU.
The conversation with Wang Yi, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China, touched on the non-preferential agreement with China, which contains many elements to promote mutual trade.
The importance of systemic development of cooperation between the EAEU and Mongolia was emphasized during the meeting with Gombojav Zandanshatar, Head of the Presidential Administration of Mongolia. The sides discussed the negotiations held on concluding an interim trade agreement, as well as the prospects of signing and launching a preferential treatment in trade between the EAEU and Mongolia.
The meeting with Aleksandar Vulin, Deputy Prime Minister of Serbia, considered the plans for implementing the Free Trade Area Agreement between the EAEU and Serbia, as well as discussed the prospects for further development of trade and economic cooperation.
In 2024, the BRICS chairmanship is held by one of the EAEU members, the Russian Federation.
