EEC delegation discussed possibility of creating a logistics hub in UAE

As part of his visit to the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Vladimir Serpikov, Director of the Trade Policy Department of the Eurasian Economic Commission, had a meeting with a delegation of UAE business circles headed by Hassan Al Hashemi, Vice President of the Dubai Chamber of Commerce. During the event, the parties exchanged their views on the prospects for expanding cooperation between the EAEU Member States and this Middle Eastern country.

Vladimir Serpikov elaborated on the issues of strengthening cooperation between the EAEU and the UAE. In particular, the parties discussed the development of the North-South International Transport Corridor. It was proposed to consider the possibility of connecting the UAE to the Eurasian Agroexpress project.

Implementing such projects will enable a switch to an integrated digital technology for goods transportation by railway using electronic transport and shipping documents, which, in turn, will allow a reduction in delivery time and eliminate administrative trade barriers.

“We see significant potential for creating in the UAE, subject to the Emirati party's interest, a distribution network and a transport hub that will expand the EAEU states' trade with the Middle East countries and, in the future, with African countries,” Vladimir Serpikov noted.

Hassan Al Hashemi confirmed his interest in expanding comprehensive cooperation with the EAEU countries, including on the issues mentioned.

He also informed of the intention to open a representative office of the Dubai Chamber of Commerce in Moscow soon and expressed gratitude for the invitation to participate in the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum to be held on June 14–17, 2023, in St. Petersburg.
