EAEU zeroed import duties on terephthalic acid

The Eurasian Economic Commission’s Council adopted a decision to set until March 2024 the rate of import customs duty on terephthalic acid and its salts at 0%.

"The measure is introduced to make good the deficit of raw materials in the internal market of the Eurasian Economic Union and to satisfy the needs of enterprises engaged in manufacturing polyethylene terephthalate", noted Natalia Samoilova, Deputy Director of the EEC Tariff and Non-tariff Customs Regulation Department.
Polyethylene terephthalate is mainly used in manufacturing polyester fibers and threads as well as preforms for plastic bottles, films and packaging containers for the food industry.

Nowadays, the rate of import customs duty of the CCT EAEU in respect of terephthalic acid and its salts is set at 5% of the customs value.

The EEC Council's Decision shall come into effect after 10 calendar days have elapsed from the date of its official publication.
