Promising areas of interaction and holding the first meeting of the joint Working Group of the Eurasian Economic Commission and the Government of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar were discussed by Goar Barseghyan, Director of the EEC Integration Development Department, and Kan Zaw, Minister of Investment and Foreign Economic Relations of Myanmar. The meeting was held on January 25 at the EEC’s headquarters.
Goar Barseghyan noted some positive trends in trade and economic cooperation between the Eurasian Economic Union and Myanmar and emphasized that implementing the Memorandum of Interaction signed in 2023 would contribute to further growth of trade turnover.
"Studying the bottlenecks of cooperation – increasing information exchange between relevant agencies of the EAEU countries and Myanmar involved in implementing the Memorandum, as well as wider involvement of expert and business circles in the dialogue will help improve the achieved results," Goar Barseghyan commented.
In turn, Kan Zaw expressed Myanmar’s intention to intensify interaction in such areas as manufacturing industry and the agricultural sector, finance, transport, tourism, energy, and digitalization, both with the EAEU and with each of its countries on a bilateral basis.
"Myanmar is ready to increase imports of seeds, fertilizers, pesticides, and machinery equipment from the EAEU countries, as well as to boost exports of coffee products. We propose to discuss these and other practical aspects of trade and economic cooperation during the first meeting of the joint Working Group," the Minister noted.
Goar Barseghyan invited the representatives of Myanmar to participate in the upcoming congress and exhibition events on the Eurasian integration topics – in the Eurasian Economic Forum, as well as in the EAEU–ASEAN business dialogue as part of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum.
