EEC and SCO interact in agricultural sector

The Eurasian Economic Commission representatives took part in the opening ceremony of the Yangling Agricultural High-tech Achievements Exposition and the round table on developing present-day agriculture of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization in Xiangyang (People's Republic of China).

The Commission's delegation got acquainted with the technologies and capabilities of the SCO demonstration base for agricultural technology exchange and training, toured the industrial zone of high-tech agriculture, which is recognized as the PRC national brand and a large-scale platform for international exchanges and development of new cooperation models based on the scientific and practical achievements.

Aina Kusainova, Deputy Director of the EEC Agricultural Policy Department, informed the round table attendees about the cooperation between the Eurasian Economic Union countries to ensure sustainable development of the agricultural sector.

They compared notes, exchanged experience and best practices in the field of agriculture, green and sustainable agricultural development. They noted the importance of implementing new agricultural technologies and digitalization, as well as joint efforts of the SCO countries to ensure regional and global food security.

The EEC representatives held working meetings with Nuran Niyazaliev, SCO Deputy Secretary General, and heads of delegations from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Russia. They discussed priority areas of cooperation between the EEC and the SCO in the field of agriculture, as well as issues of organizing and holding joint events on food security and sustainable agricultural development of the EAEU and SCO countries in 2025.

The events were attended by representatives of the SCO Member States, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, the UN World Food Programme and other international organizations, as well as the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Commerce of the PRC.

Cooperation between the EEC and the SCO is carried out within the Memorandum of Understanding dated September 17, 2021, which defines the agricultural sector as one of the areas of cooperation.
