EEC develops interregional cooperation

Askar Japparkulov, Director of the EEC Macroeconomic Policy Department, reported on the Eurasian Economic Commission's activities aimed at developing interregional cooperation in the Eurasian Economic Union at the 5th International Conference "Export to the EAEU Сountries-2023. Potential of Interregional and Cross-Border Cooperation” held on June 29 in Novosibirsk.

Moderating the session on developing interregional trade and economic cooperation in the EAEU countries, Askar Japparkulov touched upon the key integration idea - ensuring "four freedoms" and informed on its benefits for extending trade and economic relations between the EAEU States' regions.

“One of the significant achievements of the Union is the absence of a whole range of controls at internal borders - transport, sanitary, veterinary and sanitary, quarantine and phytosanitary controls. The systems of veterinary and sanitary control (supervision) in the Union are recognized as equivalent, which enables exporters of agricultural products to freely supply goods to the EAEU internal market on the basis of product safety certificates issued by national authorities”, the Head of the Department stated.

The session participants discussed issues of a coordinated transport policy and a single labor market, emphasizing that the joint efforts of the countries and the Commission in these areas open up expansive opportunities for the Unions States' citizens. For this purpose, the Agreement on mutual recognition of academic degrees in the Eurasian Economic Union Member States, signed at the recent meeting of the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council in Sochi, was highly appreciated as well. The EAEU countries' workers who have national degree certificates can find employment in another Union State without going through an additional procedure for recognizing documents from foreign states.

Askar Japparkulov focused attention on the low involvement of regions in trade with the EAEU partners and presented the Commission's proposals prepared as part of the List of measures aimed at enhancing the development of interregional trade and economic cooperation.

The conference was attended by representatives of enterprises, companies, banks, development institutions, authorized government bodies, and experts from all the Union countries.
