Heads of Government of Eurasian Five started forming regulatory framework of EAEU common electric power market

At its meeting held on February 2-3 in Almaty, the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council approved the Rules for access to the services of interstate transmission of electricity (capacity) within the EAEU common electric power market. This is the first package of rules required to launch the common electric power market to be adopted by the Heads of the EAEU Governments.

The Rules provide non-discriminatory access to the transit of electric power when traded in the EAEU common electric power market, as well as conditions required for the reliable functioning of national electric power markets.

The document will come into effect on January 1, 2025 simultaneously with the rules of mutual trade in electric power, the rules for determination and allocation of capacity of interstate cross-sections and the rules for information exchange in the common electric power market. The EAEU common electric power market will start functioning with enactment of these acts.

"The idea of creating the common electric power market is one of the basic ones for the EAEU. We in the Commission strive to ensure its implementation in terms of new rules for this, in fact, new market. Primarily, it will affect the improvement of energy security as well as operational reliability of the electric power complexes of the five countries”, noted Arzybek Kozhoshev, EEC Minister in charge of Energy and Infrastructure.
