Interstate cooperation in agricultural sector contributes to strengthening EAEU food security

As part of his working visit to Armenia, Artak Kamalyan, Minister in charge of Industry and Agriculture of the Eurasian Economic Commission, took part in the opening ceremony of the innovative livestock breeding complex of Yeremyan Projects Group of Companies in the Tashir community of the Lori Region.

The project was the first step in the practical implementation of the trilateral Memorandum between the Government of the Republic of Armenia, the Eurasian Development Bank (EDB) and Yeremyan Pharm signed in August 2022. The document purpose is to ensure food security and sustainable economic development of Armenia. 

The investment project in the field of agriculture and food production, which meets the objectives of the "Livestock Development Program in the Republic of Armenia for 2019-2024", was implemented under the coordination of the EEC and financial support from the EDB, which provided 32 mln US dollars for constructing and equipping a new agricultural enterprise.

This modern livestock breeding complex, designed for 1,500 cattle, was erected in a record 14 months. Its capacity is 45 ths liters of milk per day. The pig breeding farm, which is part of the complex, can produce up to 17 ths animals per year. Simultaneously, the construction of a plant for processing dairy and meat products is being completed in Yerevan. The management of the innovative livestock breeding complex notes that high performance will be ensured by the use of modern technologies. Implementing the project will create 120 additional workplaces in the region. 

Promoting cooperation, including the creation of an efficient platform for cooperation between the business community and financial institutions, is among the top priorities of the EEC Industrial and Agricultural Unit. As part of the established interaction on implementing the project in Armenia, the pedigree cattle are purchased in the Kaliningrad Region of Russia. The Commission's experts note that the work of the new enterprise will make a significant contribution to ensuring food security and developing the EAEU countries' agricultural sector.
