Zero customs duty on containers extended until the end of 2023

The Eurasian Economic Commission’s Board extended the validity period of zero import customs duty on certain types of containers (code 8609 00 900 9 of the CN FEA of the EAEU) up to and including December 31, 2023.

"Setting the duty to zero is aimed at preventing reduction of the EAEU container fleet after the departure of some Western logistics companies. Extension of this customs tariff regulation measure will ensure timely delivery of goods and traffic in the Far Eastern ports," explained Andrey Slepnev, EEC Minister in charge of Trade.

According to him, containers currently manufactured within the Union are completely bought out by the EAEU countries’ business community, but the current needs are not met in full.

Necessary amendments will be made to other Commission's acts as well.

For reference

The subheading 8609 00 900 9 of the CN FEA of the EAEU classifies containers (including containers for transportation of liquids or gases) specially designed and equipped for carriage by one or more modes of transport, except for containers with anti-radiation lead coating for transportation of radioactive substances, as well as containers with an internal volume from 42 cubic meters to 43 cubic meters.

The current rate of the CCT EAEU import customs duty in respect of containers is 10% of the customs value. In accordance with the decisions No. 63 and No. 129 of the Commission's Board dated April 12, 2022 and September 13, 2022, respectively, the 0% duty is being applied from March 28, 2022 to February 28, 2023.
