Negotiations on establishing EAEU-Iran free trade area on track

From September 26 to September 28, Moscow hosted the fifth round of negotiations on concluding the free trade agreement between the Eurasian Economic Union and Iran, which will replace the interim preferential trade agreement effective at the moment.

"The work on the regulatory part of the document is almost done, the remaining minor issues can be settled in the short term. As for the key matter, the list of goods to which no duties will be applied in mutual trade, the parties' positions are crystallized and the solutions are also visible," noted Anton Tsetsinovsky, Head of the Section of Special Issues of Trade Regulation of the EEC Trade Policy Department, following the negotiations round.

The Commission representative added that the governments of both the EAEU countries and Iran paid great attention to the success of those negotiations. This allows to expect that soon the decisions necessary for their conclusion will be taken by both parties.

"According to our estimates, the conducted round drew the substantive conclusion of the negotiations significantly closer. Nevertheless, all participants should address each other's query items as productively as possible. We agreed to meet next time in November," said the EEC representative in conclusion.
