Council of Standardization Heads reviewed standardization development in EAEU

Valentin Tataritsky, Minister in charge of Technical Regulation of the Eurasian Economic Commission, and the Unit representatives took part in a meeting of the Council of Heads of State (National) Standardization Bodies of the Eurasian Economic Union.

The key topic of discussion was systemic issues of developing the EAEU standardization and providing technical regulations with a full-fledged evidence base of modern interstate standards.

"We pay special attention to the implementation of programs to develop interstate standards to EAEU technical regulations," noted Valentin Tataritsky. "The EEC monitoring revealed that the implementation of such programs lacked in efficiency, which makes it difficult to provide technical regulations with up-to-date interstate standards in a timely manner."

In total, the programs envision developing 2,702 interstate standards to the Union technical regulations. The main developer countries are Russia (2,005 GOSTs), Kazakhstan (344 GOSTs), Belarus (312 GOSTs).

By the end of 2024, it was planned to develop 1,802 interstate standards. 1,107 have been developed and approved, which is 61 percent of the target.

The members of the Council of Heads noted the importance of strengthening cooperation between the Interstate Council for Standardization and the EAEU. The matters that the two integration platforms deal with are closely intertwined. Emphasis was placed on the importance of deeper involvement of interstate technical committees in the development of interstate standards to ensure that technical regulations are evidence-based, as well as the discussion of conflicting issues arising between countries in the development of GOSTs, at the EEC subcommittee on standardization.

The meeting also noted the relevance of developing a strategic work plan of the Council of Heads of State (National) Standardization Bodies of the EAEU for 2025–2027.

In 2025, the chairmanship in the Council of Heads will be assumed by Belarus. The Council of Heads will be headed by Elena Morgunova, Chair of the State Committee for Standardization of the Republic of Belarus.
