The event brought together representatives of interested government, scientific and commercial institutions of the Eurasian Economic Union countries. The sides discussed global trends in developing supercomputers using the example of Europe, China, the USA, the EAEU States, technologies for manufacturing information computer systems as well as current scientific developments in this field.
"For the Eurasian integration, a separate issue is that national science and education networks fail to have a competitively superior world-class computing potential. This hinders the development of innovative technologies, strengthening of scientific and industrial potential and leads to a lag in creating and using high-tech technologies, a decrease in the competitiveness of not only specific industries and enterprises, but also the economy as a whole", stressed Artak Kamalyan, Minister in charge of Industry and Agriculture of the Eurasian Economic Commission. “Therefore, we should develop supercomputer technologies and increase computing resources. We have the potential to develop, create and efficiently use large computing systems and it is time to use it for the benefit of our economy".
The project’s prime objective is to create the Eurasian information-computer infrastructure. Free access to the world-class high-performance computing resources will be open to all enterprises, scientific institutions, education establishments, public authorities and other subjects of innovative development.
Following the conference, it was decided to form a Working Group on elaborating new interstate program. It will include representatives of the EAEU expert community who will take part in both the development and implementation of this project.
For reference
A supercomputer is a special-purpose computer that is far beyond the majority of computers across the globe in terms of its technical parameters and computing speed. Since 1993, the rating level of the five hundred most powerful computing systems has been determined and registered in the global Top500 project.
The Eurasian Technology Platform "Supercomputers" was created by the decision of the Eurasian Economic Commission’s Council. Its founders are the Joint Institute of Computer Science Problems of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, the International University of Information Technologies of the Republic of Kazakhstan, A. K. Aylamazyan Institute of Software Systems of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the Armenian-Indian ICT Center of the Enterprise Incubator Foundation.
