Deputy ministers of agriculture of the Union countries considered issues related to the circulation of organic products and crop seeds

On March 17, consultations with heads of the authorized authorities of the Eurasian Economic Union countries took place in the Eurasian Economic Commission under the chairmanship of Artak Kamalyan, EEC Minister in charge of Industry and Agriculture.

The participants considered a number of issues concerning the establishment of a common market for organic products in the Eurasian Economic Union. In particular, they discussed the mutual recognition of conformity certificates for organic production and common approaches to regulating the importation of organic products from third countries into the EAEU.

"To date, the Union countries, jointly with the Commission, have reached a number of compromises, which will help speed up finalizing the draft Agreement on the Circulation of Organic Products in the EAEU and fulfill the instruction of our countries' heads of governments this year. Adopting this document will ensure the free circulation of organic products in the Union, as well as create conditions for cooperation between manufacturers in one of the most promising and high-margin agro-industrial sectors," Artak Kamalyan, EEC Minister in charge of Industry and Agriculture emphasized.

Moreover, the parties considered conceptual issues related to regulating the importation and circulation of agricultural plant seeds containing genetically engineered material, which was necessary to ensure the proper safety of agricultural products circulated in the Union markets and exported to third countries.

The preparation of relevant amendments to the Agreement on the Circulation of Seeds of Agricultural Crops Within the EAEU dated November 7, 2017, will be continued at the expert level.

The event was attended by Arman Khojoyan, Deputy Minister of Economy of the Republic of Armenia, Vladimir Grakun, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Food of the Republic of Belarus, Kuanysh Yelikbayev, Deputy Chairman of the Technical Regulation and Metrology Committee of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Azamat Mukashev, Deputy Minister of Agriculture of the Kyrgyz Republic, Maxim Uvaidov, Deputy Minister of Agriculture of the Russian Federation, Julia Shvabauskene, Deputy Head of Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance, and Maxim Protasov, Head of Russian Quality System.
