Armen Harutyunyan presented EEC proposals on ensuring sustainable transformations in food systems at global forum

Armen Harutyunyan, Director of the Agricultural Policy Department of the Eurasian Economic Commission, made a presentation on the key role of food systems in ensuring sustainable transformations as part of the panel session "Leveraging Urban and Local Agrifood Systems for Sustainable Transformation" organized by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).

The EEC representative told about the mechanisms for promoting innovative technologies in the agricultural sector of the Eurasian Economic Union countries, in particular to ensure development of urban agriculture and food security in growing cities.

"At the moment, the EAEU is creating various platforms for exchanging experience and knowledge between business representatives from all countries of our Union regarding manufacturing and introducing innovative products and establishing cooperation," noted Armen Harutyunyan.

On the sidelines of the forum, EEC representatives held a number of working meetings. Prospective areas of cooperation between the EEC and the FAO were discussed with Raimund Jehle, FAO Regional Program Leader for Europe and Central Asia. Matters of seed farming development, seed production in the EAEU, using innovative technologies in crop farming to make agriculture more efficient, increasing competitiveness of crop products in the EAEU domestic market and third-country markets and finding logistics solutions to export seeds of crop plants were discussed with representatives of the German business community.
