EEC and Iran discussed cooperation plans

Eldar Alisherov, Minister in charge of Integration and Macroeconomics of the Eurasian Economic Commission, held a working meeting with a delegation from the Islamic Republic of Iran headed by Seyed Jalaledin Alavi Sabzevari, Director General of Multilateral and International Economic Cooperation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Iran.

The EEC Minister informed the Iranian partners about the progress of reviewing by the countries of the Eurasian Economic Union of Iran's application for the status of an observer state at the EAEU, noting that the final decision on this issue would be taken by the Union Heads of State at the meeting of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council.

The head of the Iranian delegation emphasized the high level of trade and economic cooperation between the EAEU and Iran and expressed interest in its further deepening through the implementation of joint projects, primarily in energy and transport.

Eldar Alisherov expressed interest in deepened cooperation between the EEC and Iran in the areas of mutual interest. He also shared the experience of successful cooperation with the observer states at the EAEU.

Following the meeting, the Iranian representative invited the EEC Minister to visit Tehran in 2025. He suggested holding a presentation of the EAEU to raise awareness among Iranian business circles about the Eurasian agenda as well as the opportunities for foreign businesses. This initiative is aimed at strengthening mutually beneficial cooperation and expanding commercial ties between the EAEU countries and Iranian partners.

The EEC received a note from Iran on its desire to obtain observer state status at the EAEU on May 27, 2024.
