EAEU set requirements for using medicines for children

The Eurasian Economic Commission’s Board has adopted guidelines for determining the possibility of using dosage form of a pharmaceutical product in pediatric practice.

The document contains instructions on safe and accurate dosing of medicines for children as well as a description of the preferred methods to convert the dosage forms of various pharmaceuticals into convenient forms for their use. This approach can be used by people providing care for children if suitable dosage forms of medicines manufactured by the pharmaceutical industry are not available.

The guideline provides common approaches of all the EAEU countries to authorizing the use of various dosage forms of medicines in children and providing consumers (parents and child caregivers) with information on how these medicines can be used for children.

In particular, the guideline contains instructions on how to convert solid dosage forms (tablets and capsules) into powder forms suitable for use in children as well as instructions on dosing liquid forms (solutions, suspensions and syrups) containing high concentrations of active substances.
