The EEC Delegation attended the annual session of the UN Strategic Commission
The EEC Delegation headed by Yuriy Shokamanov,
Director of the Statistics Department, attended the 44th session of
the UN Statistics Committee at the UN headquarters from February 26 to March 1,

During the session, decisions were made concerning current and strategic development in various branches of statistics, consideration was given to coordination of international programs and it was resolved to submit the Basic principles of official statistics for approval by the UN General Assembly.
Within the framework of the session, Mr. Shokamanov met with the leaders of the UN Statistics Department, Eurostat and International Monetary Fund, and delegation leaders of statistics services of the Republic of Belarus, the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Russian Federation. The Parties shared opinions on the development prospects for mutual cooperation, including practical expert-level cooperation.
Mr. Shokamanov expressed gratitude to the UN Statistics Department for the invitation to attend the session of the UN Statistics Commission since he believes it is important to communicate with the colleagues, discuss directions for further cooperation, establish working contacts since the priorities of the mutual work include conformity to the statistical methodology applied in the contracting countries and international standards.
Background information:
The UN Statistics Commission unites leaders of statistics agencies from the UN Member-States, and the UN EEC, Eurostat, IMF, OECD, UNCTD, WTO and other international organizations. The Commission is the supreme body in charge of coordinating of international statistical activity approving statistical standards, developing concepts and methods of their implementation on national and international levels.
