EEC and Saudi Arabia discussed prospects for cooperation in agricultural sector
Armen Harutyunyan, Director of the Agricultural Policy Department of the Eurasian Economic Commission, and Maksim Protasov, Head of the Russian Quality System (Roskachestvo), held a meeting with Ahmed Saleh Aiadh AlKhamshi, Deputy Minister of Environment, Water and Agriculture of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, on October 17 in Riyadh (Saudi Arabia).
The sides discussed a whole host of issues of mutual interest, including the development of organic agriculture, ensuring food security, sustainable development of the agricultural sector in light of climate change, and others. Proposals were considered on elaborating an international treaty between the EAEU and Saudi Arabia on the equivalence of organic agriculture systems to ensure free trade in organic products, creating an investment promotion platform under the aegis of the Commission, and promoting agricultural products and food manufactured in the EAEU to third markets.
Besides, the sides compared notes on digital and technological solutions in agriculture.
The EEC and Roskachestvo invited representatives of the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture of Saudi Arabia to take part in the national exposition of the Russian organic products and the round table "The Russian Market of Organic Products: Prospects in the Market of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia" within the International Agricultural Exhibition “Saudi Agriculture-2022” held in Riyadh.
