Outcomes of EIC meeting on June 3-4, 2024

The Heads of Government of the Eurasian Economic Union considered 12 issues at a meeting of the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council on June 3-4 in Nesvizh (Republic of Belarus).

The Intergovernmental Council approved the annual report of the Eurasian Economic Commission on the state of competition in transboundary markets and measures taken to suppress violations of general competition rules therein for 2023. During the reporting period, the Commission continued to monitor compliance with the general competition rules in the EAEU transboundary markets within the procedures carried over from previous periods, as well as in terms of reviewing incoming applications and materials.

The Heads of Government of the EAEU countries were presented with a report on monitoring the regulatory impact assessment (RIA) of draft EEC decisions in 2023. The report contains information on finalizing the regulatory and legal framework required for implementing the actual impact assessment (AIA) of adopted EEC decisions, as well as for extending the AIA to draft international treaties within the Union.

The Members of the Intergovernmental Council approved the report for 2023 on creating and developing transport infrastructure in the territories of the EAEU Member States in the East-West and North-South directions, including as part of coupling with the Chinese Belt and Road Initiative. The preparation of this report on an annual basis is envisaged by the Strategy-2025.

According to Bakytzhan Sagintaev, Head of the EEC Board, the Islamic Republic of Iran has expressed interest in obtaining the Observer State status at the EAEU. The Eurasian Economic Commission received the relevant note on May 27. It will be considered in the determined procedure. This statement was made by the Chairman of the EEC Board within the press scrum following the meeting.

The Intergovernmental Council determined that the next EIC meeting will be held in late September – early October in Yerevan.
