Andrey Slepnev: "The Free Trade Agreement brings economic partnership with Iran to a brand-new level

This was stated by Andrey Slepnev, Minister in charge of Trade of the Eurasian Economic Commission, at the opening ceremony of the 3rd Eurasia International Exhibition in Tehran. The event was attended by Masoud Pezeshkian, President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, as well as Mohammad Atabak, Iran's Minister of Industry, Mines and Trade.

As the EEC Minister emphasized, it is important to establish effective interaction at the interstate level and between the business circles in order to deliver on new opportunities.

"That is why we place particular emphasis on this event and will be ready to respond promptly to any questions the business community may have. Together with our Iranian counterparts, we will provide all the necessary information so that businesses of the EAEU and Iran could maximize the advantages created by the new full-fledged Agreement," emphasized Andrey Slepnev.

The parties jointly toured the exhibition pavilions.

Within the framework of Andrey Slepnev's visit, he had a working meeting with Mohammad Atabak, where the necessary steps for implementing the Agreement were discussed in detail and it was negotiated to prepare a road map to develop cooperation in areas of mutual interest.

"I believe that the road map could include such promising areas as simplification of border customs procedures, industrial cooperation, elimination of technical barriers to trade, cooperation in SPS regulation and e-commerce," the EEC Minister noted.

The road map should be ready by the time the first meeting of the joint committee is held, which is to act as an institutional platform to consider any issues related to the functioning of the full-fledged Free Trade Agreement between the Eurasian Economic Union and Iran, as well as further development of relations between the parties in the context of the Observer status at the EAEU recently granted to Iran.

Andrey Slepnev proposed to hold the first meeting of the joint committee during one of the next meetings of the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council, where the Iranian party plans to participate as an Observer State.

A large-scale meeting of the EEC delegation with the Iranian business community, organized jointly with the Tehran Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines and Agriculture, was held on the sidelines of the exhibition. It was attended by heads of diplomatic missions and businesspeople of the EAEU countries.
