Andrey Slepnev, Minister in charge of Trade of the Eurasian Economic Commission, informed the members of the Iranian parliamentary delegation about the active work being performed by the EEC on forming a free trade area between the Eurasian Economic Union and the Islamic Republic.

"I am convinced that concluding a full-fledged agreement will have a beneficial impact on the efficiency of planning long-term trade and economic cooperation," he stressed during the meeting held at the EEC’s venue.

The sides specially focused on the common interests of the Union and Iran in exploiting transport and logistics opportunities in the North-South direction amid forming the Greater Eurasian Partnership.

For reference

Negotiations on forming a full-fledged Free Trade Agreement are conducted under the regime in force between the EAEU and Iran in accordance with the Interim Agreement since October 2019. In H1 of 2021, trade with Iran showed significant growth: exports of the Union Member States increased by almost 47% (from 0.9 to 1.35 bln US dollars), imports increased slightly less - by 34% (from 616 to 825 mln US dollars). It is worthy of note that trade between the EAEU countries and Iran increased as well compared to the same period in 2019 (exports - by 27% and imports - by almost 70%).
