Arzybek Kozhoshev discussed cooperation on developing transport corridors in EAEU-CIS format

The CIS Executive Committee and the Eurasian Economic Commission envisage to prepare a joint action plan aimed at developing transport corridors until 2030.

The Commission's initiative to expand cooperation with the Executive Committee of the Coordinating Transport Meeting (CTM) of the Commonwealth of Independent States was discussed on August 8 between Arzybek Kozhoshev, the EEC Minister in charge of Energy and Infrastructure, and Gennady Bessonov, Chairman of the CIS CTM Executive Committee.

They also considered the EEC participation in the work of coordinating bodies acting in accordance with the Agreement on Coordinated Development of International Transport Corridors Passing through the CIS Countries' Territory. Earlier such an initiative of the EEC had been supported by the Council of Heads of Authorized Bodies in the field of Transport of the EAEU Member States.

The meeting participants noted the work that had been done on developing transport infrastructure within the EAEU and CIS and expressed their intention to expand cooperation in coordinating the development of Eurasian transport corridors and international transport corridors passing through the territories of the EAEU and CIS countries.

"We all have one common endeavor to develop transport corridors, and we can achieve an even greater effect by combining efforts of the EEC and the CIS CTM," Arzybek Kozhoshev emphasized.

The meeting participants agreed on the need to prepare a joint action plan under the existing memorandums concluded between the EEC and the CIS Executive Committee, as well as taking into account the 2023-2025 Action Plan to implement the Memorandum on Deepening Interaction between the EEC and the CIS Executive Committee dated November 27, 2018.

"The significance of joint activities and their implementation timeframe should be determined in accordance with the Declaration "Eurasian Economic Path" signed by the EAEU Heads of State. It stipulates further development of economic processes within the EAEU until 2030 and for the period until 2045," the EEC Minister outlined.

Following the meeting it was decided to sign a statement of intent on preparing a joint action plan aimed to develop transport corridors until 2030.

It bears reminding that the Agreement on Coordinated Development of International Transport Corridors Passing through the CIS Countries' Territory had been signed on November 20, 2009.
