Bakytzhan Sagintaev: "We have a task to fill in the dialogue with Cuba with new avenues of interaction"
Bakytzhan Sagintaev, Chairman of the Board of the Eurasian Economic Commission, held negotiations with Ricardo Ruiz Cabrisas, Deputy Chairman of the Council of Ministers and Minister for Foreign Trade and Foreign Investment of the Republic of Cuba, on June 13 at the EEC's headquarters.
During the meeting, the parties discussed a wide range of issues on the integration interaction agenda.
"The Republic of Cuba is one of the EAEU key partners in the Latin America and Caribbean region. Along with that, the country directs its efforts to expand our cooperation," Bakytzhan Sagintaev noted.The parties interact within the Joint Action Plan of the Commission and the Government of the Republic of Cuba, which covers 34 areas of cooperation, including trade, banking activities, finance, biotechnology, agriculture, information and communication technologies. In 2023, the trade turnover between the EAEU and Cuba amounted to 290 mln dollars.
The Chairman of the EEC Board said that currently the Commission jointly with the integration association countries explores the possibility of acceding Observer States to individual treaties within the EAEU, as well as their involvement in specific cooperative and infrastructure projects.
According to the parties, deepening the dialogue between entrepreneurs is of great importance. The implementation of the Cooperation Agreement between the EAEU Business Council and the Cuban Chamber of Commerce will contribute to intensifying trade and economic interaction.
