Bakytzhan Sagintaev: “Establishing a permanent dialog between the EAEU and ECO will foster the efficient solution of joint tasks”

Bakytzhan Sagintaev, Chairman of the Eurasian Economic Commission's Board, held talks with Khusrav Noziri, Secretary General of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO), on July 4 in Astana.

The parties considered a number of mutually interesting issues of international interaction and discussed promising areas of cooperation.

Bakytzhan Sagintaev noted the similarity of the EAEU and ECO activities. In this regard, the Chairman of the EEC Board proposed to use the existing potential of the parties to couple the integration processes in the Eurasian space, in particular create and develop transport and logistics infrastructure, liberalize trade and economic relations, cooperate in the areas of digitalization and energy resources.

“Coupling of any integration processes additionally unlocks the potential of the economies of the states being members of international associations. The EAEU and ECO should establish a permanent dialog to solve their joint tasks,” Bakytzhan Sagintaev noted.

Striving to clarify the areas of mutual interest, the parties agreed to consider preparing a draft Memorandum of Understanding between the EEC and the ECO Secretariat.

The Chairman of the EEC Board expressed confidence that establishing various forms of experience exchange will promote coordination of efforts aimed at the economic development of the countries participating in the two integration associations.

In addition, Bakytzhan Sagintaev invited Khusrav Noziri to participate in the Eurasian Economic Forum to be held in Yerevan this autumn.

The Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) is a regional interstate economic organization founded in 1985.

It comprises ten countries: Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Turkey, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan. The ECO activities are coordinated by the ECO Secretariat.
