Amendments to the Treaty on the Eurasian Economic Union were considered at a meeting of the consolidated Working Group on its improvement, chaired by Sergei Glazyev, EEC Minister in charge of Integration and Macroeconomics, held on June 26 at the EEC's headquarters.
During the meeting the Working Group members approved a number of amendments to be included in the new draft Protocol on amendments to the Treaty on the Union, as well as discussed the results of the internal approval of the draft "Fourth Major" Protocol.
The main purpose of the draft "Fourth Major" Protocol is to make amendments aimed at eliminating gaps in legal regulation identified in the law enforcement practice and clarifying the terminology used in the Treaty on the Union. By disposition of the EEC Board, the document was sent to the EAEU countries for internal approval in March of this year.
It comprises representatives of the public authorities of the Union Member States, the EEC and the Court of the Union.
The Working Group prepared a number of protocols to amend the Treaty on the Union, including the "First Major" Protocol – came into effect on July 15, 2021, the "Second Major" Protocol – came into effect on February 12, 2024, and the "Third Major" Protocol – came into effect on April 25, 2024.
