EEC implements digital technologies in statistics

This was reported by Azamat Orosbaev, Director of the Statistics Department of the Eurasian Economic Commission, at the International Forum of Producers and Users of Statistics held on September 12-14 in St. Petersburg.

Azamat Orosbaev informed the forum attendees about the development of the Eurasian Economic Union's statistics with the use of digital technologies. In particular, he noted the positive effect of joint efforts of the Commission and the Union countries' authorized bodies in improving the quality of publications of official statistics on the EAEU, as well as creating and developing the methodological basis for the Union's statistics to improve the comparability of data. He paid special attention to applying digital technologies in the production of the EAEU official statistics and the EEC's transition to the modernized statistics subsystem of the EAEU Integrated Information System.

Besides, Azamat Orosbaev emphasized that the EEC Statistics Department successfully implemented the SDMX international standard at all stages of statistical production.

The Forum results are planned to be used in further work on implementing innovative technological solutions to collect, process and disseminate statistical data and improve the ways of disseminating official statistics as part of implementing the Strategy-2025 and the EAEU Integration Development Program in the field of statistics for 2021-2025.

The EEC representatives also attended the 67th meeting of the Council of Heads of Statistical Services of the CIS Member States at the Forum venue. They discussed the issues of implementing the project "Developing Statistics of the Commonwealth of Independent States" for 2024-2025, including aspects of work to ensure comparability of statistical methodology in the Commonwealth region.

The International Forum of Producers and Users of Statistics was organized under the auspices of the Interstate Statistical Committee of the Commonwealth of Independent States with the support of the CIS Executive Committee. The Forum was attended by the heads of national statistical services, public authorities, representatives of international organizations, expert and business communities of the CIS countries.

The Forum has become a platform for dialogue between producers and users of statistics
on improving the efficiency of statistical production in order to better meet the modern needs of statistics users.

Statistical Data and Metadata eXchange (SDMX) is an open format for exchanging statistical data supported by the UN, ECB, Eurostat, IMF and other international organizations. From the ISO perspective, it complies with the ISO 17369:2013 Statistical Data and Metadata Exchange (SDMX) standard.
