Maxim Ermolovich, Minister in charge of Competition and Antitrust Regulation of the Eurasian Economic Commission, was a key speaker at the thematic session of the EEC Competition and Antitrust Regulation Unit "Law Enforcement Practice and Development Direction of Antimonopoly Regulation", which took place within the Eurasian Economic Forum on September 30.
The session discussed current problems and challenges facing national jurisdictions of the EAEU Member States in the field of competition, which are transmitted to cross-border markets.
The discussion focused on the effectiveness of existing mechanisms and areas for improving the Commission's activities to ensure equal competitive conditions.
It also articulated general approaches to the assessment of marketplace activity through the lens of antitrust regulation in the mentioned markets.
The focus of the event was also on establishing and using in the EEC's activities legal positions by the EAEU Court on cases concerning violations of general competition rules.
The session highlighted the importance of improving the mechanisms of interaction between national competition regulators and the EEC when considering allegations about violations of general competition rules in cross-border markets and conducting proactive investigations. Emphasis was placed on the need to eliminate so-called "gray areas" in the competence of national antitrust authorities and the EEC to prevent and suppress negative effects on competition.
The participants did not doubt the need for a clear exchange of information between national competition regulators and the EEC on the issues of controlling compliance by economic entities, including third-country companies, with the common rules of competition in the Union's cross-border markets.
