Armen Harutyunyan, Director of the Agricultural Policy Department of the Eurasian Economic Commission, reported on the approaches being formed in the Eurasian Economic Union to regulate the circulation of organic products and uniform requirements to its production, as well as certification and marking required for free circulation of such products in the EAEU common market within a special session of the Nevsky International Ecological Congress "Organic Production: Opportunities, Prospects and International Cooperation”.
The EEC representative stressed the particular importance of the draft Agreement on the Procedure for Recognizing Organic Products within the Union which is undergoing internal coordination. The document execution will become the basis for the efficient functioning of the common market for such products and will ensure their free circulation throughout the EAEU.
“The European countries remain the main direction for the sale of organic products produced in the EAEU, while China and Middle Eastern countries are promising markets. We mainly supply organic wheat, rapeseed, sunflower, soybeans, peas, and corn”, Armen Harutyunyan noted.
Besides, the Commission's representative informed on the directory "Organic Atlas of the EAEU" prepared by the EEC jointly with relevant ministries of the Member States. The compendium contains the certified organic producers of the Union countries and their products, as well as information on the organic sector development.
The 10th Nevsky International Ecological Congress was attended by Andrey Yatskin, First Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council, Maksim Uvaidov, Deputy Minister of Agriculture of the Russian Federation, Maksim Protasov, Head of the Russian Quality System, representatives of the UN Food and Agriculture Organization, Russian regions and the business community. Besides, the First Russian Organic Fair organized by the Ministry of Agriculture of the Russian Federation jointly with Rosselkhozbank JSC and attended by 60 producers from 31 Russian regions was opened during the event.
