List of priority areas of the EAEU's work in the field of consumer protection compiled

The meeting of the Advisory Committee on Consumer Rights Protection chaired by Viktor Nazarenko, Minister in charge of Technical Regulation of the Eurasian Economic Commission, summarized the results of work carried out by the Eurasian Economic Union countries in 2022 and defined promising areas of further interaction for protecting consumer rights of citizens.

As was noted by Viktor Nazarenko, measures aimed at simplifying conditions for doing business had encompassed all areas of integrative cooperation. In this situation, good faith of entrepreneurs becomes a prerequisite for promoting consumer interests and economic stability of the EAEU market.

Among the key measures aimed at creating a space of trust between businesses and consumers Viktor Nazarenko highlighted the Joint action program to protect the rights of consumers adopted by the Union countries and the list of priority measures aimed at minimizing consumer risks for citizens under the current economic conditions.

As the objectives of their joint work in 2023, the meeting participants designated further development of effective interaction with businesses to introduce good faith business practices towards consumers.

Another important field will be systemic work focused on examining the level of consumer rights awareness of the population and promoting rational consumption. In this regard, the Commission together with the authorized authorities of Member States plans to conduct a joint opinion poll dedicated to legal protection of consumers within the Union.

Agreements were reached on carrying out joint activities aimed at informing and educating the population of the Union countries on the issues of consumer protection. This work will be done under the overarching motto "Informed Consumer – Responsible Business."

Moreover, the meeting participants agreed research topics conducive to effective implementation of a range of measures envisioned in the Strategy for Developing Eurasian Economic Integration until 2025.

Also, the meeting approved a review prepared by the Commission together with authorized authorities of Member States and describing the current and projected activities in the field of consumer protection in the EAEU.
