EAEU established new basis for granting deferred payment of import customs duties

The Eurasian Economic Commission’s Council has adopted a decision on a new basis for granting an interest-free deferred or installment payment of import customs duties for a period of up to six months.

Now, in addition to the grounds established in the Customs Code of the Eurasian Economic Union, the right to pay by deferral or installments can be granted when importing goods (except for excisable goods not used in production) by systemic and (or) backbone enterprises (organizations), which, in accordance with the Member States’ legislation, are supported for implementing measures aimed at improving their economic stability.

This basis will be applied on a temporary basis - until September 30, 2022.

In order to obtain such deferred or installment payment, a confirmation of the authorized governing body issued in accordance with national legislation should be submitted to the customs authority.

For reference

The procedure for granting a deferred or installment payment of import customs duties is governed by Articles 58 and 59 of the EAEU Customs Code.
