Relevant matters of establishing common energy markets were discussed by Arzybek Kozhoshev, Minister in charge of Energy and Infrastructure of the Eurasian Economic Commission, and Viktor Karankevich, Minister of Energy of the Republic of Belarus, on November 16 in Minsk. The meeting was also attended by the heads of the industrial associations of the country's energy sector - Belenergo and Beltopgaz.
Arzybek Kozhoshev emphasized the high degree of preparation of the acts on the common energy markets being elaborated in the Eurasian Economic Union and expressed appreciation of the joint work dynamics. "Despite persisting differences in the gas sector that still need to be resolved, we have managed to resolve disputes on most controversial issues and have made significant progress in the work on preparing strategic documents," he stated.
In turn, Viktor Karankevich noted the importance of bringing together approaches and developing mutually acceptable solutions on the issues of establishing common energy markets.
“We plan to consider the remaining unagreed issues at the next meeting of the Council of Heads of Authorized Energy Bodies of the Union Member States scheduled for November 22,” the EEC Minister informed.
The parties also noted significant progress in forming the legal framework of the common electric power market.
"The year 2023 was a breakthrough year in establishing the common electric power market. The Heads of Government approved three fundamental documents, which will become the basis for the activities of the Union countries' economic entities in this market. The work on these documents showed the parties' consolidation and focus on achieving the best result for the economy and population of the Union," Arzybek Kozhoshev emphasized.
The program of his working visit included a visit to the facilities of Unitary Enterprise "Mingaz". The EEC Minister has noted the positive experience of Belarus in the field of gas infrastructure expansion and nuclear energy and emphasized that using the atom for peaceful purposes is one of the promising areas for deepening the Eurasian integration.
Arzybek Kozhoshev and Viktor Karankevich noted the positive results of the meeting and agreed to continue interaction on the energy track.
