Bakhyt Sultanov spoke on developing fair competition in EAEU markets at Beijing forum

Minister in charge of Competition and Antitrust Regulation of the Eurasian Economic Commission Bakhyt Sultanov took part in the video conference at the International Forum on Fair Competition Policy in Beijing (PRC).

The event, organized by the State Administration for Market Regulation of the People's Republic of China, was attended by representatives of the competition authorities of the United States, Japan, Russia, South Korea, Brazil, the European Union, the OECD, and a number of other international organizations, experts, and representatives of transnational companies.

In his address to the forum participants, Bakhyt Sultanov noted that China managed to create a modern comprehensive antitrust law and a system for its application in record time. This can serve as a good example for the countries of the Eurasian Economic Union.

"The competition development system in China is gradually becoming the most important source of best practices and expert review, which we closely monitor," the EEC Minister emphasized. "In turn, the Eurasian Economic Commission pays great attention to the issues of ensuring fair competition in the markets of our Union, ensuring the freedom of movement of goods, services, capital and labor."

Bakhyt Sultanov noted the need to maintain fair competition in the field of digitalization. According to the EEC Minister, digital platforms play an indispensable role in establishing links between producers and consumers both in the EAEU and all over the world. However, having "the power of the gatekeeper", they create preconditions for monopolistic abuses.

The minister stressed the importance of forming a pro-competitive consciousness in business. Bakhyt Sultanov acknowledged meetings of public receptions, which the competitive block of the Commission has been holding for several years, as examples of effective interaction with entrepreneurs. Meetings have a hybrid format and take place both offline and online, allowing you to involve a large number of participants. To become an online member of the public reception, you have to connect to the broadcast on the EEC YouTube channel and ask questions.

Another effective tool for building a culture of fair competition, according to Bakhyt Sultanov, is a knowledge testing instrument in the field of competition rules in cross-border markets that has been recently posted on the EEC website.

"In the section "Competition in the EAEU - a dialogue with business" on the home page of the EEC website, we placed a module - an interactive interface of questions and answers. With its help, company employees can test their knowledge of the EAEU competition legislation, as well as assess their business behavior for signs of anti-competitive practices," the EEC Minister concluded.
