Bakytzhan Sagintaev, Chairman of the Eurasian Economic Commission's Board, held a working meeting with Robert Rae, President of the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), on September 19 at the United Nations headquarters in New York.
During the negotiations, the sides considered a number of international interaction issues of mutual interest, and discussed promising areas of cooperation, in particular, on implementing the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The contribution of the Eurasian Economic Union countries to this large-scale work was discussed on a separate basis.
“Each EAEU country takes specific steps to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals using national program documents, strategies and concepts. At the same time, economic integration within the EAEU is an additional factor contributing to the SDGs achievement”, the Head of the EEC Board emphasized.
Bakytzhan Sagintaev informed that the Commission has started preparing a comprehensive report on the SDGs, which will include the analysis of the Union's integration agenda for correlation with the objectives for their achievement.
The document is scheduled to be presented at the High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development in July 2025.
Following the negotiations, the two sides agreed to continue working contacts and develop practical interaction.
