EEC develops common approaches to studying EAEU countries' digital markets

The issues of developing common approaches to studying digital markets in the Eurasian Economic Union were considered at a meeting with experts of the EAEU countries' competition authorities on May 27 at the Eurasian Economic Commission.

Representative of the Federal Antimonopoly Service of Russia informed on the key aspects of studying the state of competition in the market for services of owners of aggregators of information on goods/services (marketplaces). In particular, attention was paid to special aspects of classifying the services of marketplaces as owners of information resources that provide interaction between buyers, sellers and self-pickup points. This also entailed the criteria applied to the assessment of a dominant position (using Wildberries and Ozon as examples). The meeting attendees got acquainted with the new Russian law in the area under consideration.

The parties noted the similarity of the applied methods for assessing digital markets and agreed to continue the exchange of experience in law enforcement practice.

The EEC Antitrust Department carries out systematic work on developing common approaches used in the study of the Member States' digital markets. The decision on the expediency of such approaches was adopted by the heads of the Union countries' competition authorities and the Commission's Minister in charge of Competition and Antitrust Regulation in November 2023.
