EEC develops dialogue with ASEAN countries

Mikael Belluyan, Director of the Integration Development Department of the Eurasian Economic Commission, held working meetings on the sidelines of the Russia – ASEAN Economic Ministers' Consultation with representatives of the state administration bodies of Indonesia, Thailand, Myanmar, Cambodia and Laos. They demonstrated the high interest of ASEAN countries in strengthening and developing trade and economic cooperation with the EAEU States.

The algorithm and priorities of the dialogue within the Memorandum of Cooperation between the EEC and the Government of Indonesia, including the first meeting of the joint Working Group, were agreed with Djatmiko Bris Witjaksono, Director General of the International Trade Negotiations of Indonesia.

The meeting between Mikael Belluyan and Thatchaphon Aphimonthetbut, Director General of International Trade of Thailand, discussed holding the joint Working Group meeting and developing a joint action plan. They noted mutual interest in a wide range of economic agenda within the Memorandum of Cooperation between the EEC and the Government of Thailand.

The outcomes of implementing the arrangements reached at the first meeting of the joint Working Group established in accordance with the Memorandum of Cooperation between the EEC and the Government of Myanmar, as well as mechanisms for intensifying the dialogue between the business circles of the EAEU and Myanmar were discussed with Marlar Myo Nyunt, Head of Department of the Ministry of Investment and Foreign Economic Relations of Myanmar. The EEC initiative to hold joint sector-specific seminars on key areas of cooperation was supported.

During the meeting with the Cambodian delegation, they expressed interest in holding a meeting of the joint Working Group within the Memorandum of Cooperation between the EEC and the Government of this country as soon as possible.

The EEC delegation also had a meeting with representatives of Laos, the country presiding over ASEAN this year. Mikael Belluyan spoke in praise of the country's contribution to developing interaction between the EEC and ASEAN and its importance for intensifying trade and economic cooperation between the EAEU countries and Laos.
