EEC Minister Sergei Glazyev held meeting with Min Aung Hlaing, Prime Minister of Myanmar

During the official visit of the Eurasian Economic Commission's delegation to the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, a working meeting was held between Sergei Glazyev, EEC Minister in charge of Integration and Macroeconomics, and Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, Chairman of the State Administration Council and Prime Minister of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar.

The parties discussed the current results and promising areas of trade and economic cooperation between the EAEU countries and Myanmar.

Sergei Glazyev noted that implementing the Memorandum of Interaction between the EEC and the Government of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar contributes to deepening the dialogue in key areas of cooperation.

The main objectives at this stage are to increase the volume of trade turnover between the EAEU countries and Myanmar, to correct the imbalance in mutual trade, to develop a systemic dialogue between the EEC and the Government of Myanmar, including information exchange on key aspects of the Eurasian regulation affecting trade and economic cooperation.

Sergei Glazyev also informed on the results of bilateral meetings with the Heads of relevant Ministries of Myanmar and the first meeting of the joint Working Group.

The Memorandum of Interaction between the Eurasian Economic Commission and the Government of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar was signed on June 15, 2023 on the sidelines of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum.

The Memorandum envisages interaction in such areas as customs regulation, technical regulation, application of sanitary, veterinary-sanitary and phytosanitary quarantine measures, financial markets, transport, energy, agricultural sector and others. The Memorandum contemplates establishing a Working Group on Interaction as well as elaborating a joint action plan.
