EAEU trade with Iran grows despite pandemic
The Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) countries and Iran are increasing mutual trade volumes despite the pandemic. For instance, in 8 months of this year the trade turnover increased by 2% and exceeded 2 bln US dollars. The main contribution to the gain was made by increase in imports from Iran by almost 230 mln US dollars. Among the Union Member States, exports increased for Armenia. This was reported by Andrey Slepnev, Minister in charge of Trade of the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) at a meeting of Co-chairs of the Joint Committee established in accordance with the Interim Agreement leading to the formation of a free trade area between the EAEU and the Islamic Republic of Iran. On the Iranian side, the meeting was attended by Hamid Zadbum, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade of Iran and Head of Iranian Trade Promotion Organization. Agricultural products have become the basis of mutual trade. Food products and agricultural raw materials accounted for about 80% (939 mln US dollars) of deliveries from the EAEU countries to Iran, more than half of which (609 mln US dollars) were cereals. In turn, similar products accounted for most of deliveries from Iran to the Union — 68%, or 575 mln US dollars. Fruits and nuts have become the main drivers of import growth from Iran.
