13 Jun 2024 Bakytzhan Sagintaev: "We have a task to fill in the dialogue with Cuba with new avenues of interaction" Bakytzhan Sagintaev, Chairman of the Board of the Eurasian Economic Commission, held negotiations with Ricardo Ruiz Cabrisas, Deputy Chairman of the Council of Ministers and Minister for Foreign Trade and Foreign Investment of the Republic of Cuba, on June 13 at the EEC's headquarters. During the meeting, the parties discussed a wide range of issues on the integration interaction agenda. "The Republic of Cuba is one of the EAEU key partners in the Latin America and Caribbean region. Along with that, the country directs its efforts to expand our cooperation," Bakytzhan Sagintaev noted. The parties interact within the Joint Action Plan of the Commission and the Government of the Republic of Cuba, which covers 34 areas of cooperation, including trade, banking activities, finance, biotechnology, agriculture, information and communication technologies. In 2023, the trade turnover between the EAEU and Cuba amounted to 290 mln dollars. The Chairman of the EEC Board said that currently the Commission jointly with the integration association countries explores the possibility of acceding Observer States to individual treaties within the EAEU, as well as their involvement in specific cooperative and infrastructure projects. According to the parties, deepening the dialogue between entrepreneurs is of great importance. The implementation of the Cooperation Agreement between the EAEU Business Council and the Cuban Chamber of Commerce will contribute to intensifying trade and economic interaction.
13 Jun 2024 Bakytzhan Sagintaev, Chairman of EEC Board, held negotiations with Willard Mvemba, General Executive Director of COMESA Competition Commission Bakytzhan Sagintaev, Chairman of the Board of the Eurasian Economic Commission, held negotiations with Willard Mvemba, Chief Executive Officer of the Competition Commission of the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA). The negotiations included a thorough exchange of views on the interaction between the EEC and the COMESA Competition Commission, which started in 2019 and was particularly intensified with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding on Competition Policy and Enforcement in 2022. "Both the Eurasian Economic Commission and COMESA have an overall goal – to promote the sustainable development of their regions through economic integration," emphasized the Head of the EEC Board. "We have long been in close dialogue on competition, supporting each other's initiatives on international platforms". In particular, Bakytzhan Sagintaev reminded about the EEC initiative on interaction between regional integration organizations in the field of competition. The COMESA Competition Commission has supported this initiative and is actively involved in its implementation. The parties considered some prospects for cooperation between the Eurasian Economic Union and the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa. The Chairman of the EEC Board expressed his conviction in the possibility of expanding the dialogue between the parties. The Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) comprises 21 Member States: Burundi, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Djibouti, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Egypt, Kenya, Comoro Islands, Libya, Mauritius, Madagascar, Malawi, Rwanda, Swaziland, Seychelles, Somalia, Sudan, Tunisia, Uganda, Eritrea, and Ethiopia.
07 Jun 2024 Bakytzhan Sagintaev: “The EAEU stands at the threshold of a new stage of the Eurasian economic integration” On June 7, Bakytzhan Sagintaev, Chairman of the Board of the Eurasian Economic Commission, spoke at the session “10 Years of the EAEU – Effects, Priorities, Prospects” as part of the 27th St. Petersburg International Economic Forum.  In his report, the Chairman of the EEC Board noted that the Eurasian Economic Union approached the anniversary date with significant results. "The EAEU GDP growth exceeded 14%. Mutual trade doubled and amounted to almost 90 bln dollars. Investment in fixed capital increased by 43% and amounted to 457 bln dollars,” Bakytzhan Sagintaev noted.  As the Head of the EEC Board emphasized, today the integration association countries stand at the threshold of a new stage of economic integration. “In the medium term, our States will have to provide the EAEU market with key goods and resources, form production and technology chains, a new level transport and logistics space, financial market, as well as strengthen the processes of digital transformation,” Bakytzhan Sagintaev believes.  The Chairman of the EEC Board paid special attention to the Eurasian “five” international activities, emphasizing that the EAEU should become a center of economic attraction.  In order to accomplish this objective, the dialogue with key regional integration associations is ongoing, and negotiations are underway on the trade agreements track.  Bakytzhan Sagintaev informed that a road map for implementing the Eurasian Economic Path Declaration will be prepared next year on the instructions of the Heads of State. This document sets the trajectory for economic processes in the Union until 2030 and for the period until 2045. Bakytzhan Sagintaev, Chairman of the EEC Board, also took part in the plenary session of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum.
