Bakytzhan Sagintayev

Biography

Born on October 13, 1963 in Usharal village, Talas District, Dzhambul region, Kazakhstan.

A graduate of the Kazakh State University named after S.M. Kirov, PhD in Economics (1990, thesis subject: "Living Standard and Conditions of Urban and Rural Population: Socio-Economic Aspect").

Employment:

1985–1988: a lecturer of the political economy chair at the Alma-Aty Institute of National Economy.

1988–1992: an assistant lecturer, then senior lecturer and associate professor of the sociology chair at the Kazakh State University named after S.M. Kirov.

1992–1993: President of the Marue tourist and commercial firm.

1993–1997: Director General of Kazmet, JSC.

1997–1998: Chief Specialist, then Deputy Director General of Lukoilneftegazstroy-K, CJSC.

1998–2002: served as Deputy Akim of Zhambyl Region, Deputy Chairman of the Small Business Support Agency of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Chairman of the Board of Small Entrepreneurship Development Fund, CJSC, Deputy Chairman of the Agency for Natural Monopoly Regulation, Competition Advocacy and Small Business Support of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

2002–2004: First Deputy Chairman of the Agency for Natural Monopoly Regulation and Competition Advocacy of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

2004–2007: Chairman of the Agency for Natural Monopoly Regulation of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

2007–2008: Head of the Office of the Prime MInister of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

From 2008 to 2012, he was Akim of Pavlodar region.

In 2012, served as Minister of Economic Development and Trade of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

From September 2012 to January 2013: First Deputy Chairman of Nur Otan People's Democratic Party.

Since 2013: First Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan — Minister of Regional Development of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

2014–2016: First Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

2016–2019: Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

March 1–24, 2019: State Secretary of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

March–June 2019: headed the Presidential Executive Office of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

From 2019 to 2022, he was Akim of the city of Almaty.

From June 1, 2022 to January 31, 2024: Minister in charge of Economy and Financial Policy of the Eurasian Economic Commission.

By Decision of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council, he was appointed Chairman of the Board of the Eurasian Economic Commission on February 1, 2024.

A recipient of the Order of Kurmet (2008), Order of Parasat (2013), Order of Barys 3rd class (2021).
