As Artak Kamalyan, EEC Minister in charge of Industry and Agriculture, has noted, the recommendation contains a list of measures of national and supranational regulation for sustainable development of the Union’s sugar market, in particular, increasing the competitiveness of the sugar industry and ensuring food security. The document includes activities related to resource allocation, manufacture, developing mutual trade and export potential, awareness-building efforts and exchange of experience.
"Implementing these measures will enable ensuring balanced production of beet-root sugar, meeting the needs of our Union’s internal market, increasing exports of white sugar and sugar-containing products to third countries and supporting a favorable investment climate in the beet sugar subcomplex of the agricultural sector", Artak Kamalyan stressed.According to Artak Kamalyan, the EAEU States should pay special attention to developing sugar beet breeding and seed production to stabilize the industrial-production growth and the sale of high-quality competitive seeds of commercial sugar beet hybrids selected by the Member States. Furthermore, it is recommended to update the beet-sowing and beet-harvesting machinery fleet and land reclamation equipment, create competitive preparations to protect sugar beet from diseases and pests, identify pathogens of sugar beet diseases, etc.
